How to vacation in Paris on a dime!
WE'VE just gotten off the RER from the airport and are dragging our suitcases
down Rue Montmartre when we see the seafood vendor's sign:
Langoustines, 25 euros par 2 kilos.
Even though we haven't yet checked into the apartment we found via
parispiedaterre.com, we know it has a kitchen, and this marche -- a kind of
Parisian farmer's market -- has almost everything we'll need.
Suitcases still in hand, we fork over the cash; we'll cook those langoustines in
butter, shallots and white wine for a dinner that feeds four adults.
Like many travelers, one reason we have come to Paris is the food. Unlike
many, we won't be shelling out $1,400 for dinner at Pierre Gagnaire. We prefer
to cook for ourselves.
