Tuesday night we headed over to the new Neelys Barbecue Parlor space on 1st avenue and 62nd st.

It is the former Merchants Bar.
As most opening parties go, the place was packed like a can of sardines, we were lucky to get one piece of crispy sugar coated bacon and two drinks.
I got to see some old cronies, including, Drew Nieporent, Herb Wilson, Steven Hall, who does the Public Relations for Neelys and of course Abraham Merchant, who is a partner in the new venture.
Abraham and I met about 17 years ago when his group was expanding and so was ours. It probably took about 20 times of me meeting him, before he remembered me and this time was the same case. Next time I will wear a name tag:)
His lovely wife made up for his poor facial recognition of Mr. Z.
I honestly cannot say anything yet about the place, cause it was so packed.......now that the place is open, we will go and check it out and I am sure, will have a great meal.
Since none of us had ample food, it was time for the delectable pig bbq! Mrs. Z wanted Dinosaur, our friends wanted Blue Smoke and I was dreaming about going over the state line in Kansas and pulling into Oklahoma Joe's (1/2 gas station and 1/2 BBQ joint) for some serious Q.

As all of us know, Danny Meyer could open a car wash that serves burgers as your car gets lathered and it would be a huge success.
Blue smoke has all of the human bells and whistles that Danny's other places have- every employee has a good attitude and they know their job descriptions.
The Q to me is for the masses.
The BBQ pork ribs were good as well as the beef ribs. The wings were solid and the sides were tasty. The company that we dined with was amazing, which made the whole experience lovely.
