"Chefs for Scher"


What: CHEFS FOR SCHER; a multi-chef event to benefit the Steven Scher Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Restaurateurs in association with The James Beard Foundation When: Monday July 13, 2009 VIP 6:30 – 7:30 General admission 7:30 – 10:30 Where: The Bowery Terrace at the Bowery Hotel, 335 Bowery NYC  Who:  Host Chef Laurent Tourondel of BLT Prime, Chef Govind Armstrong of Table 8, Chef Franklin Becker of Abe & Arthur’s, Chef Ed Brown of Eighty-One, Chef Scott Conant of Scarpetta , Chef John DeLucie of Waverly Inn, Chef Bobby Flay of Mesa Grill, Bar American, Bobby’s Burger Palace, Chef John Fraser of Dovetail Chef Alex Garcia of Calle Ocho, Chef Michael “Bao” Huynh of BarBao, Chef Stephen Kalt of Epicurean Concepts, Chef Marc Murphy of Landmarc, Chef Nancy Olson of Gramercy Tavern, and Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten of Jean-Georges, Spice Market ***Great chefs, restaurateurs and food and beverage professionals gather once again to keep the name and spirit alive of their friend and colleague Steven Scher, who passed away in December of 2008.  On July 13, 2009 an impressive roster of the country’s most revered chefs roll up their sleeves to participate in a walk around tasting where guests will be able to sample signature delicacies and rub elbows with their favorite chefs from the restaurant and food TV world.  Champagne and wines specially chosen by our representative sommelier Jean Luc Le Dû of Le Dû’s Wines will be flowing, and David Katz has generously donated Zyr Vodka to be the official spirit of Chefs for Scher.  All the participants have a special place in their hearts for the late restaurateur Steven Scher and are anxious to help raise funds to the scholarship for aspiring restaurateurs that bears his name.                                                                                                                                      The evening will be filled with surprises as guests from the restaurant world drop by to personally support this event and many have graciously donated dinner and other packages to the silent auction.  A live auction with exciting offerings is bound to bring in donations as travel packages to Las Vegas, and a NYC Wine and Food Festival package generously donated by Lee Brian Schrager get auctioned off, attendees may bid on a dinner in their own home with their favorite chef or finally get that table at Rao’s.  When all this cooking and celebrating comes together in one room the result is one firey evening.  Chefs for Scher will be the number one food event of the summer and not to be missed.   We know Steve wouldn’t have it any other way. Special thanks to The Bowery Hotel and our sponsors  The event begins with a VIP hour at 6:30pm and general public from 7:30 – 10:30pm.  Tickets are $225 for VIP and $150 for general admission, any amount over $100 is 100% tax-deductable.  To purchase tickets or make a donation visit www.brownpapertickets.com/tktktkt or call 1.800.838.3006
