Last week Me and Mrs.Z went a little over board on Dining out- but hey, money is useless when you’re dead. Wednesday we took my dad for his 76th Birthday to the Little Owl in the village. My dad has always called dinner (supper) and I guess when you eat at 5:45pm, it is supper. I would call it a late lunch! I had a delicious Cavatelli and Joey Campanero's Famous sliders. 3 of us had the chicken- perfectly seasoned and crisp skin. Mrs. Z had the Branzino special. It is a great little joint and always has consistent food, service and speed in which the food comes out of the kitchen. The place is very small- so plan in advance.
Thursday night we went to Scott Conant's new restaurant Faustina at the short lived Table 8 space in the Cooper Square Hotel. I loved the space in the Cooper Square and had secretly wanted to do a Calle Ocho in the space as I had a feeling Table 8 was in for a rough go. Scott added airport tables in the bar/lounge area for dining and did a few more minor tweaks. We had an 8pm ressie, 7 people. As I get older, it is getting harder and harder for me to hear conversations in busy restaurants. I attribute the noise level at Faustina to 75% my hearing or lack of hearing and 25% so so acoustics. The somellier was very knowledgeable about Italian wines as I am not. We wanted a white that was similar to a Sancerre and a Red close to the same flavor profile of a Rioja. She hit both suggestions on the head. My app. was beef with Spaetzle and veggies. I liked it, but would have preferred if the Spaetzle was crispy as opposed to soft. My pasta entree was fantastic! Everyone at the table had a nice time and we will definitely be back, just earlier so I can hear:) There was a man taking candid photos of 3 lovely young ladies which I have a hunch is for a review. Hmmm- you never know:)
Friday night we hit Joey Campanero's new restaurant "Kenmare".....With David Evangelista. The place was rocking for our 8pm ressie. I had the asparagus gratin and then a yummy chicken dish- I like the little owl's version better. Mrs. Z had a veal cutlet was phenomenal with a touch of lemon and our 2 other guests had fish dishes they the seemed to love, but did not offer us any tastes, lol! CZ and I had a fantastic Rose and we had a wonderful time. The place was a bit loud for me, but again, I can't hear a darn thing!
