This could have been a disaster!
After the Men’s finals at the 2010 got washed out on Sunday, we were super excited to head back to Flushing on Monday the 13th of September, 2010……
I woke up at 5am to walk crazy Randolph and then head to the gym. The weather was misty, but I had confidence that the sky would clear.
As the day moved on, it turned out to be an amazing day.
CZ and I headed to the finals and everyone around us was pumped up for a great match.
We got there at 4:20pm, right on time for the match to start.
Note to anyone that goes to a finals, bring food, because all of the vendors try to have absolutely nothing left at the end of the tournament………
The match was fantastic until we started to see rain drops coming down and a severe lightening storm.
The entire stadium was evacuated and we were all corralled into the common hallways of the stadium. There was no emergency plan in place and we were all cramped together like sardines.
Now when you add alcohol into the mix and thousands of people in a big sardine can, tempers can erupt in a split second.
We were very nervous as none of the emergency exits were permissible to use.
The bottom line is that after about 40 minutes of tempers flaring, we were finally allowed to exit. Carolyn and I just wanted to get out of there. I was extremely surprised that an action plan was not put into place, but also very happy that no one was hurt……
It could have been really ugly!
