I am so excited for Mrs. Zā€™s first blog post on www.hungrydomaine.com

It is all about balance!

Sometimes a mani, pedi and a blowout is not enough of an escape on my day off. On that note, I took a fabulous flower cutting and arranging class in Greenpoint, Brooklyn this weekend and came away from it feeling rejuvenated and inspired. Sometimes you have to take things apart to see the beauty in them and see how else they can connect and work together. My everyday job is figuring out a solution that makes everyone happy and micro-managing everyone and anything that can possibly annoy or affect my client. I love everything about it, from the control, the stress, and especially the rewarding feeling in the end.

Sarah and Nicolette of The Little Flower School made me look at the overall picture of everything and anything from a very different perspective and apply this openness and exploration in perspective to my flower arranging. Each collection of flowers can be displayed and enjoyed with hidden moments within the bouquet. These little vignettes of color throughout tell their own story within the larger story of the whole arrangement; a small pool of pink muddy roses that graduated so delicately into a silvery grey succulent leaf followed by a trio of white anemones...each color punctuating a unique feeling but complementing the whole and contributing to the full experience.

I really had never either been inspired to create a mix like this or realized why it could be more fun this way. I got so overwhelmed and excited with blue flowers, for example, that I carried it out with 50 of them to make a serious punch; yet, I never thought a green/grey silvery tone with a hidden cove of miniature blue hyacinths could be that much more complicated, interesting and special in its own way.  I felt alive cutting, (with my new fancy clippers..another to add to my collection šŸ˜‰ pulling and moving around the studio picking fresh flowers from large cool metal buckets. As I approached the end of my class, occasionally grabbing a piece of crusty bread with delicious kunik cheese from the Nettle Meadow Goat Farm in Thurman, New York (note to self: must visit there this summer and the Battenfeld's Anemones Farm in Red Hook NY) and a splash of bubbly to wash it down, I couldn't believe how the three hours flew by and I'm anxiously awaiting my next escape next month.
