I know you have a ton of canned food left over from stocking up for Hurricane Irene-

Why not put the cans to good use and donate them to one of our favorite charities:

THE FOOD BANK OF NEW YORK

Food Bank For New York City recognizes 28 years as the city's major hunger-relief organization working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs. As one of the country's largest food banks, our mission is to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, the Food Bank tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution, income support  and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research.

There are 3 million New Yorkers who experience difficulty affording food

Single Donations
Moving? Cleaning? Extra food in your pantry?

Food Bank For New York City and our network of more than 1,000 food assistance programs always appreciates the generosity of New Yorkers. Whether it is a few cans from your pantry or a few boxes of household supplies, the Food Bank will help you locate a soup kitchen or food pantry in your community where hungry New Yorkers find the help they need.

All items to be donated must be:

In their original, unopened packages

Within the expiration date on the package

In plastic jars or containers, not glass
